You would be hard pressed to find a better known name of someone in the horror genre that is not famous for their on-screen work. But here he is, Clive Barker: playwright, novelist, film director, and visual artist. Oh sure he’s done some narration and popped in for a few screen credits, but the man that brought us the Hellraiser franchise plus introduced us to The Candyman and authored a long list of popular horror titles deserves all the respect we can give him.
As an artist, Barker’s paintings and illustrations have been featured in galleries in the United States as well as within his own books. He has created original characters and series for comic books, and some of his more popular horror stories have been featured in ongoing comics series.
But the Hellraiser franchise has reached cult status. According to Clive himself, “I remember when I watched Hellraiser (1987) with my mother. She cried when she saw my name in the opening credits and I had to tell her that that was the happiest she was going to be for the next two hours.”
