Media Passes – Requirements

The Scarefest has always made Media Passes available. But over the past few years the program has gotten a little out of control with little filtering or back-grounding of the applicants. For 2020 we are improving our application process to continue to allow legitimate media outlets to continue to attend.

Our 2020 media passes DO NOT include admission to our VIP Party or early admission to the VIP hours of the expo on Saturday or Sunday. All press passes do allow for early admission to our Black Carpet VIP Event on Friday. If early admission is otherwise required we may make accommodations with advanced notice.

You qualify if you represent the following traditional media outlets:

PRINT MEDIA: Print Media includes local newspapers, national newspapers, college newspapers, magazines etc. Hyper-local publications and alternative newspapers will be considered on a case by case basis.

TELEVISION & RADIO: TV & Radio include AM, FM, satellite, local TV, cable, national TV outlets. Streaming only outlets will be also be considered on a case by case basis.

ONLINE MEDIA: In order to be considered for internet media credentials you should meet the following criteria. You may not get a reply if you fail to reference these points in your request.

You represent a website or blog that posts content regularly, preferably weekly.

You should have at least 1 branded social media page such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, etc.

At least one of your social platforms should have more than 5,000 followers.

Freelance photographers not representing a specific media outlet that do not meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply for our volunteer staff photographer positions. Please contact

Online Media and Podcasts are limited to 1 pass unless you agree to post about The Scarefest before the event with a link to our website. Special consideration for additional passes will be made for outlets that actively help us promote our convention through interviews or other approved coverage and postings leading up to the event including our commercials.

Of course, if you are not approved for “free” media credentials, you may still purchase a ticket to the show and report on the show that way. Having a press badge does not guarantee any interviews during the expo.

If you are looking to interview any celebrity guests at the event, contact in advance as the time available for these interviews is very limited. Please note it is very hard to set up interviews on the fly at the show. Some of our celebrities will have agreements to do advanced interviews with press, but very few will agree to conduct interviews during the expo.

The number of passes allocated are decided on a case to case basis at the discretion of The Scarefest.

If you are granted a media pass, we ask that you share information regarding The Scarefest before the event.

Media Credentials are granted with the understanding that The Scarefest is a fandom event that celebrates both its attendees and guests. We ask that press don’t mock attendees or guests or use the show as a source for derisive humor.

If you are approved, we will work with you to help secure possible advance information and potential interview opportunities with The Scarefest staff and/or guests. You will also be added to the mailing list for any related press releases.

IMPORTANT: Your media pass is not approved unless you receive a confirmation email from The Scarefest. Do not “assume” it is approved and “just show up”, and past admittance is no guarantee of acceptance. All approved media are sent confirmations in advance.
